Sometimes, nature comes to me! This photo was taken right in my back yard. This alligator let me get surprisingly close to snap this shot.
Do you know how you can tell the difference between an alligator and a crocodile? Well, an alligator will see you later, and a crocodile will see you after a while! Just kidding... You can actually tell from the shape of their head. An alligator has a wider, more u-shaped head. A crocodile's head is narrower and more v-shaped. You can also tell from their teeth. When an alligator's mouth is closed, you can still see the upper teeth, but with a crocodile, both the upper and lower teeth are visible - though I'm not sure I'd want to get so close that I'm checking their teeth! I'll take the zoom option on a camera, thanks!
Those two photos were taken at the South Carolina Aquarium. See that grin? And the upper teeth extending out of the mouth? These are American alligators.
